Overall Project Details
-----------------------
Title of the Project: Nuclear Waste Disposal Transportation Simulation
Project Keywords: Discrete event simulation, python, transportation
Are you currently looking for research assistants?: Yes
Number of Research Assistants Needed : 1
Relevant Research Assistant Major(s):
Engineering, statistics, Computer science, mathematics or related/high intrested individuals

Project Location:: Engineering Building B, option to work remotely or in-person
If the project location is off campus, does the research assistant(s) need to provide their own transportation?: Venom or FSU bus system to engineering campus
Please select the choice that most accurately describes your expectations for the research assistant(s):: Fully Remote
Approximately how many hours a week would the research assistant(s) need to work?: 7-10
Roughly what time frame do you expect research assistant(s) to work?: Flexible schedule (Combination of business and outside of business. TBD between student and research mentor.)
Overall Research Project Description:
The research will focus on modeling the operational flow of a general nuclear waste management through discrete event simulation, via the python package simpy. The overal project has three main simulations: the waste inspection model, the transportation model, and the waste storage model. You will create the transportation model that transports the waste to underground facilities which connects the other two models. Currently we have input data from the first process. You will work closely with the PhD student and the paper will ideally lead to a conference paper.

Research Tasks:
data management
data analysis
research writing
python coding
working with computing clusters

Skills that research assistant(s) may need::
github or github desktop (required)
python (recommeded, some sort of computing language required)
excel (recommended)
vscode (recommended)
zotero (recommended

Mentoring Philosophy:
It is my goal as a faculty member to be a mentor to students from a variety of backgrounds and programs. I promise to provide a safe environment built on mutual respect and understanding, hold you accountable to the goals you set, and provide guidance on what research and meaningful research deliverables are. I aim to build relationships with my students that make them feel supported and valued. I expect you to do your best and communicate quickly when personal and research-related issues arise, especially when they impact your work and progress. I look forward to working with you, learning about what motivates you, and working together to achieve our goals.

Please provide a link to your publications, a video clip, or a website for your research project (if applicable):: {Empty}
Please add any additional information here (if applicable)::
