  overall_research_project_description: 'α-actinin-2 (ACTN2) is a protein in the actin-binding domain (ABD) within the Z-discs of sarcomeres, and helps maintain the structure and function of muscle fibers, which perform contractions. Some cardiac muscle diseases, like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), occur due to genetic mutations that regulate function. This project will analyze how different mutations affect sarcomere assembly/growth. The main goal of this project is to quantify sarcomere assembly using an AI software that assesses multilevel structures and functions of sarcomeres and cardiomyocytes.'
