Literature review, data collection and analysis.
Good organizational skills a plus.
I believe that effective mentorship goes beyond transferring knowledge. Mentorship should include teaching habits and skills that empower individuals to question, analyze, and create ideas. Curiousity should be encouraged in order to develop critical thinking skills that will benefit students for the rest of their lives.
I want my mentees to feel comfortable asking difficult questions. I encourage them to challenge assumptions and to consider the perspectives of different stakeholders. I guide them in developing their own, sometimes personal, motivations for the research we conduct, thereby providing them with a stake in communicating the analytical methods and findings. I believe this approach fosters confidence in navigating more complex and uncertain situations that lie ahead.
Ultimately, my goal is to help mentees build the skills and mindset to think critically in any context—whether in their academic work, professional responsibilities, or personal lives. If they leave our mentoring relationship with a stronger ability to evaluate information, make reasoned judgments, and approach challenges with curiosity and integrity, then I consider the relationship a success!
