Overall Research Project Description We are seeking a motivated undergraduate student to join a newly created research project exploring the impact of dual enrollment on college success. The research will focus on high school students who participated in dual enrollment and earned college credit at Florida State University in Tallahassee. This project offers a unique opportunity to explore high school students' educational pathways and outcomes, contributing to meaningful research that can inform policy and practice.
Research Tasks Research tasks will include literature review and data analysis. Some unique data may be analyzed from the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) as well as standardized test scores. Depending on the final research questions, the student may collect more data and may conduct interviews with current or former high school dual enrolled students.
Skills that research assistant(s) may need: As a research student working on this project, the student will:
• Collaborate with faculty and staff in designing and conducting research
• Use tools such as Excel formulas, pivot tables, and Qualtrics
• Learn key research skills including data cleaning, analysis, and interpretation
• Gain experience in formulating research questions and presenting findings
Mentoring Philosophy I will mentor an undergraduate student by guiding him/her/them through academic inquiry. I will foster a relationship that allows for open communication and encourages exploration. I believe an undergraduate student should have a mentor that fosters intellectual growth, increases personal empowerment, provides educational opportunities, removes barriers, and creates a supportive learning environment where failures may occur and learning persists.
Please provide a link to your publications, a video clip, or a website for your research project (if applicable): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CnhErKWsQE
