    This research project is a critical component of my dissertation, which examines the full spectrum of experiences of women who served as spies in the Special Operations Executive (SOE) during World War II. My work focuses on the unique challenges and experiences these women faced, from their recruitment and training to their operations in the field, capture, imprisonment, and, in many cases, execution by Nazi forces. The project is particularly concerned with how gender influenced these experiences and shaped the ways in which these women were treated, both during the war and in post-war memory.

    Through extensive archival research and analysis, this project aims to shed light on the intersection of gender and espionage during World War II. By exploring a wide range of historical documents, including personal letters, official reports, and testimonies, the research seeks to offer a more comprehensive understanding of the contributions and sacrifices of female SOE agents. This work challenges traditional historical narratives by foregrounding the gendered dimensions of wartime espionage and memory.
