I conduct research under Dr. Shannon Hall-Mills in the School-based Practices, Effectiveness and Research (SPEAR) Lab. Are there any other research related activities you participate(d) in?: I am a presenting author for the 2022 ASHA Convention for our project titled: Detecting Locally Disproportionate Representation of Racial-Ethnic Subgroups of Students through Risk Ratios. I am also involved in the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, for which I helped to organize and present at the 2022 Research Rounds Mini-Conference in April. Answer one of the following two questions about being a UROP Leader or your UROP background. : How has UROP impacted your time at FSU? Please answer the question you selected above in the area provided.: Of all of my involvements at FSU, my research has been some of my most meaningful and impactful work, and I owe it all to UROP. Since being a UROP student, I was able to continue working alongside my mentor for all four years of my undergraduate career. The bulk of our work together was in relation to disproportionality of speech and language impairment among culturally and linguistically diverse students. With my passion for equitable outcomes for all students, our work helped me form a vested interest in empowering students of diverse linguistic backgrounds and uncovered a determined ambition: to use my career as a speech-language pathologist to address social implications and biases that impact students’ potential for success. Furthermore, serving as a UROP Leader helped me to strengthen my skills as a leader and as a mentor. It taught me how much I have to bring to the table and being a leader has taught me invaluable skills of public speaking, mentoring, communication, and overall organization. I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for the UROP program! Please list any other hobbies or interests you would like to share: Outside of my research, I also served as the 2022 Chapter President of Alpha Delta Pi at FSU! I am also involved in the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association.
