  overall_research_project_description: 'This project seeks to investigate the power balancing strategies utilized by complementors (i.e., video games) to circumvent the bottlenecks enforced by platforms (i.e., video game consoles) within the platform ecosystem. We investigate associated relationships empirically by conducting a quantitative analysis of the impact of network integration and quantify its effects within the U.S. video game industry, a commonly used empirical context within platforms and network effects. We intend to utilize a sample from the video game industry of over 14,000 video game titles across 36 focal platforms between 1977 and 2022.'
