mentoring_philosophy: 'High energy physics research makes use of a broad range of skills, including social skills, to carry out work in a collaborative environment while pushing the limits of what technology can do. My main goal as a research mentor is to help students identify their own talents and interests, and then to match them with an appropriate type of work that makes good use of their skills. There are many pathways to success in research and each student''s journey looks a little different.'

overall_research_project_description: 'The FSU high energy physics group is active in the CMS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In order to fully study physics at the terascale, we are upgrading the accelerator and the detectors in order to cope with a 10x larger number of collisions in the coming years. At FSU we are building electronic systems for the upgrade, which involves using high speed digital systems to collect, format, and transmit physics data. We have openings for research assistants to work on the construction, testing, and troubleshooting of electronics which will eventually be installed into the CMS experiment at CERN.'
