Open Science is the movement to make all aspects of scientific research more transparent and publicly accessible through actions like researchers publishing their work in an open access journal, sharing their full data set, participating in open peer review, and depositing a preprint in a repository. The prevalence of and researchers' attitudes towards these practices has been previously studied in the STEM field but has not yet been extensively examined among social science and humanities researchers.
We are interested in this gap in the existing literature and we will conduct semi-structured interviews with faculty in the Anthropology, History, Linguistics departments at FSU and FAMU to answer our research questions:
What are social scientists’ and humanists' attitudes and perceptions towards open science practices?
How do social scientists and humanists at FSU engage in open science practices?
What factors influence how social scientists and humanists at FSU engage in open science practices?
We will then transcribe and code the interviews to identify themes and concepts common among the interviewees that help to answer our research questions. The UROP student will be involved in each step of the research.

I believe mentorships should be a collaborative relationship that benefits both the mentor and the mentee. To achieve this, we will work together to develop clear goals and expectations for each other that foster a positive and supportive environment where students will develop research skills, learn and grow from challenges, and build confidence as academics and professionals.
