My lab's culture and mentoring philosophy will embody the the following core principles: -All skills are learnable with proper guidance and dedication. -Research/scientific expertise is just half of the goal. I want every student to leave with the ability to effectively communicate scientific results, develop and foster new collaborations, and become strong writers. -We strive for exciting research and innovation while never compromising on quality. mentor_handbook_and_faqs: '1' name_of_other_faculty_collaborator_if_applicable_: '' number_of_assistants_needed_faculty_postdoc_max_6_graduate_stude: '1' other_faculty_collaborator_s_preferred_pronouns: '' overall_research_project_description: "Increasing computing needs driven by artificial intelligence and machine learning applications require faster processing speeds and more energy-efficient microelectronics. The high resistivity of interconnects, which are the wires that connect transistors, are a major bottleneck for increasing processing speeds in modern computer chips. For continued Moore's law scaling, new interconnect materials are needed that decrease resistivity and mitigate electromigration at <40 nm length scales. In this project, you will fabricate and test new candidate interconnect compounds at the nanoscale. After fabricating nanowires of various diameters, you will determine resistivity scaling with size and identify the most promising compounds for future microelectronics." please_add_any_additional_information_here: '' please_provide_a_link_to_your_publications_a_video_clip_or_a_web: '' please_select_the_choice_that_most_accurately_describes_your_exp: In-person please_select_the_location_of_your_project_: 'IRCB, College of Engineering' position_availability_for_student_research: 'Flexible schedule' position_title: Faculty primary_research_mentor_name: 'Mehrdad Kiani' project_keywords: 'Microelectronics, Materials, Computing, Engineering' relevant_student_major_s_: 'Engineering, Physics, Chemistry' research_mentor_preferred_pronoun2: '' research_mentor_pronouns: '' research_mentor_supervisor_if_different_from_above_: '' research_tasks_for_student_research_assistant_s_: 'Literature review, lab work, materials characterization, analytical/computational modeling' roundtable_times_and_zoom_links: |- Tuesday September 2, 2:00-2:30 PM fsu.zoom.us/j/9841704857 skills_that_research_assistants_may_need_: | Understanding of electromagnetism and micro/electronics (such as intro Physics course).
