Creating a safe environment is central to my mentoring philosophy. I want mentees to feel comfortable asking questions, expressing uncertainty, and even making mistakes. I view mistakes not as failures, but as opportunities to learn, refine ideas, and build resilience. In such an environment, mentees are more willing to explore new directions, test original ideas, and give their best effort.
I also believe that every mentee brings unique strengths and perspectives. As a mentor, my responsibility is to recognize these qualities, help mentees set their goals, clarify their motivations, and support them in developing their talents. To foster their individuality, I encourage them to think critically, take ownership of their work, and set realistic timelines. At the same time, ongoing feedback and guidance will be provided to help them stay on the right track.
Finally, I strive to build a meaningful mentor-mentee relationship where mentees not only gain hands-on research experience, but also develop inspiration as well as enthusiasm in their areas of interest, and lay a foundation for their academic and professional growth.
