mentoring_philosophy: 'As a research mentor, my goal is to help UROP students become confident, curious, and ethical researchers regardless of the undergraduate majors or careers they aim to pursue. I do this by (1) teaching the subject matter from first principles, (2) offering candid professional advice and opportunities, (3) encouraging interdisciplinary perspectives and methods, and (4) striving to tailor projects to each student’s interests, strengths, and goals. In addition to discussing their research projects with their mentor, UROP research students in my department will meet periodically as a cohort to learn from each other as their projects advance. My goal is to create an encouraging and supportive learning environment where students can do work they will be proud to share. '
