Overall Research Project Description:
We are studying the processes involved as people exchange turns in conversation. Some of the questions we are currently exploring are:
-- When your partner is talking, at what point do you start planning your own response? What is planned at this point?
-- When it is our turn to speak, we have many options for what to say. How do we decide which option to take? 
-- There is often a small silence between the end of one speaker's turn and the beginning of the next speaker's turn. How do we recognize and interpret the length of these silences?

Research Tasks:
Literature reviews, data collection, data analysis, attend lab meetings (if possible).

No specific skills required. We will teach you what you need to know. 

Mentoring Philosophy:
My goal for the UROP experience is that mentees will develop a rich understanding of the research process -- getting projects off the ground, collecting data, analyzing data and reporting the results. Mentees will be active members of the lab team and will participate fully in the scientific life of the lab. Along the way, we will focus on developing new skills and discussing our mentees' potential future paths in research.
