Flexible schedule (Combination of business and outside of business. TBD between student and research mentor.)
I am writing a book about the history of public health in the United States and popular resistance to public health measures. The project covers the entire span of U.S. history. Topics include the history of vaccine skepticism, social and cultural attitudes toward health, political extremism, and incidents of specific outbreaks and the public health response.
literature reviews, analyzing primary documents, legal analysis, writing summaries of findings.
These are all optional, but an ability to read and synthesize large amounts of information (recommended); good writing skills (recommended); an interest and/or background in health law, health policy, or related areas (recommended); an interest in history (recommended); an interest in public health or medicine (recommended).
I consider communication, alignment of expectations, and helping research assistants develop their own goals to be important aspects of mentoring. The type of mentoring I provide will vary depending on the goals and expectations of the researcher, and I will do my best to meet the individual needs of each person involved in this project.
