  overall_research_project_description: 'With the rapid development of self-driving cars and the Internet of Things, the cars at each intersection (within a certain range) will be able to communicate with each other and with the smart traffic light. Thus, the smart traffic light should be able to schedule the traffic signals dynamically based on the real-time traffic at each intersection. Such a dynamically scheduled traffic light may be locally optimal at each intersection. It would be interesting to find out how the performance of the entire transportation system is, which includes a large number of roads and traffic lights, and to compare the performance with traditional traffic lights with fixed scheduling or other traffic light scheduling proposed in the literature.'
