  overall_research_project_description: 'The overall objective of this project is to provide a fundamental understanding of the dynamic mechanical behaviors and failure mechanisms of Silicon Carbide (SiC) nanocomposite under high-velocity impacts and achieve the optimal design of SiC-based materials for various extreme engineering applications. We will formulate a comprehensive understanding of how structural features and material properties at hierarchical size scales influence the impact resistance of SiC nanocomposite and provide critical insights towards the development of impact-resistant material systems for extreme engineering applications.'
