Scientists have found that Artificial Intelligence (AI) models, like ChatGPT, have their own way of using language, including using certain words, like "delve", more often than people usually do. I am interested in why AI models use language this way and what it means. This is important because human language is starting to show signs of being influenced by the way AI uses language. In other words, AI models like ChatGPT are affecting how people use language, but there is a lack of awareness about this issue.
Research assistants will work on studying, labelling, and organising language data, which comes from both AI and people. They are encouraged to explore smaller projects within the main research area, and will receive support and guidance along the way.
Recommended: If an assistant knows how to programme or how to analyse language, then that is great. It is okay if assistants are new to programming and/or languages, guidance will be provided. Thus, ...
Required: Assistants should have a genuine interest in both language and programming.
As a mentor, my main goal is to support growth and success in ways that are meaningful to the student. I see mentoring as a partnership where both sides can learn and benefit. In this project, students will have the chance to take charge of a smaller part of the work. I aim to create an environment where it is alright to face challenges, and where encountering obstacles is just a natural part of the learning process. Honesty and mutual respect are at the core of this partnership.
