| What is your current research focus? | My current research focuses on spatial navigation and memory, particularly in the context of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease. I study how different spatial reference frames, including allocentric and egocentric navigation, are represented in the brain and how impairments in these systems may contribute to early cognitive decline. Using rodent models and behavioral tasks, I examine how disruptions in these navigation strategies affect learning and memory, with the goal of better understanding early markers of Alzheimer’s disease. |
| Are there any other research related activities you participate(d) in? | In addition to my work in the Wilber Lab, I am also involved in research at the Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the Miami VA. My work focuses on evaluating whether GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors are associated with increased risk of frailty and sarcopenia in geriatric veterans. This involves literature review, data analysis, and applying the VA Frailty Index to assess changes before and after medication initiation. I also actively participate in presenting research findings at symposiums and engaging in academic discussions. |

| Please answer the question you selected above in the area provided. | As a UROP Leader, I hope to create a supportive and comfortable environment where students feel confident asking questions and engaging with research, even when it feels overwhelming at first. I want to help students build both their confidence and their understanding of the research process by breaking down complex concepts in a way that is approachable and clear. I plan to be available outside of class, including staying after sessions and offering one-on-one support, so students feel they have someone they can rely on. Ultimately, I want my students to leave with a stronger sense of independence, curiosity, and confidence in their ability to succeed in research. |
