My research focuses on simulation of the MAIA detector, a futuristic muon collider that would allow for further discoveries in particle physics, including those from studying the Higgs boson, electroweak symmetry, and dark matter. I work on characterizing collisions to evaluate the current detector design with the goal of applying beam-induced background (BIB) to the simulation and to work on algorithms designed to improve the reconstruction capabilities.
For my UROP project I estimated properties of stellar populations by calculating their isochrone with the goal of working towards finding the average model properties of observed stellar populations in application to observations of stellar clusters. In addition, I work for the physics department as a lab technician where I prepare and stage all lab demonstration requests for professors’ classes in the physics department, as well as design, assemble, and optimize new lab demonstrations including a chain reaction demonstration, a steam engine, and a vacuum cannon. I also host planetarium shows at the Pat Thomas Planetarium.
How has UROP impacted your time at FSU?
UROP, in addition to giving me a head start on conducting research at an undergraduate level, also matched me with a wonderful student UROP leader who became someone I looked up to, who gave me relevant advice for my major, but more generally navigating college. I know that I have been able to do more with the time I have at Florida State because of UROP, and I hope to give back by acting as a mentor to the next cohort of UROP students.
I love both listening to music and playing the violin. I am also keen on exploring Tallahassee in my spare time, whether it be finding a new stargazing spot, trying new food, or checking out local events.
