What is your current research focus?:
Currently, I am conducting my own research on plea bargaining through the Honors in the Major program here at FSU. My research’s goal is to understand the cognitive bases for why defendants decide to accept guilt plea deals. As of now, I am looking into the effects ambiguity plays on defendants acceptance of plea deals whether guilty or innocent.

Are there any other research related activities you participate(d) in?:
When I was in UROP, I worked on a project called "Misdemeanor (In) Justice" in which we did research on how judge discretion can affect defendants during first appearances for misdemeanors. Our preliminary results found that first appearance court sessions vary greatly between all the county courts in Florida's Second Judicial Circuit. This leads to sentencing and plea deals for defendants to be extremely different depending on what county they must attend their first appearance court session in.

Answer one of the following two questions about being a UROP Leader or your UROP background. : How has UROP impacted your time at FSU?
Please answer the question you selected above in the area provided.:
As a student hoping to attend law school in the future, I believe UROP has greatly impacted the way I view the courts system and provided me with a better understanding of the injustices seen within it everyday. It has led me to recognize that change needs to happen within the criminal justice system starting with how the state prosecutors do their jobs. This only makes me want to strive harder to become a lawyer in the future and be able to implement the research I learned into my practice.

Please list any other hobbies or interests you would like to share:
I am currently a member of FSU's competitive mock trial team and treasurer for the organization Moderates at FSU! As for hobbies, I like to crochet, read, and hit the gym!
