HMW Statement: How might we improve awareness of and promote access to campus resources for low SES students, such as the Food for Thought pantry and the Professional Clothing Closet?

For its inaugural project, the DFA-FSU team and its advisers partnered with the Center for Leadership and Social Change’s PeaceJam Southeast  to conduct a design sprint to identify problem areas that the student body wanted to explore. The Studio worked directly with PeaceJam's student leadership to develop an event that allowed PeaceJam’s coaches and mentors to more deeply consider its ten core issue areas leading up to its yearly PeaceJam Southeast conference. The result was a three hour design sprint with three breakout rooms (over 80 participants) using the DFA process to ideate on the issues of access to healthcare, human trafficking, and resources for low SES students. Following the sprint, DFA-FSU began the design process to complete the studio launch process. The team worked specifically with the New Students and Family program to ideate on how to improve student knowledge and usage of FSU’s Food for Thought pantry and professional clothing closet.
