Project Description
The Sonzogno Project gathers a series of digital and print-based initiatives devoted to the study of Italian publishing house Sonzogno. The two main digital components are an OMEKA website gathering data about the year 1885 publication records of the firm, and an FSU libraries managed Repository of the Sonzogno-owned daily newspaper Il Secolo (1866-1927), the most important daily newspaper in the 19th century in Italy.Research Tasks: The student will assist professor in updating Main Page of Research website as well as an OMEKA site showcasing a previous DH project. Most of the research hours will be devoted to browsing through different issues of Il Secolo to find interesting material to post on social media and/or on a dedicated page on the Sonzogno Project Homepage. Student will become familiar with a digital resource that is being used internationally and with the history of Italian journalism. Student need to have intermediate to advanced understanding of written Italian.
Skills that research assistant(s) may need: Student need to have intermediate to advanced understanding of written Italian.
Fluency in computer-based resources such as Omeka and similar archival applications is a plus.
Students need to be interested in journalism, literature, and Italian history.
Mentoring Philosophy
I like to state clearly my expectations from the start, so that the mentee has a clear idea of what they are being asked to do and within which timeline. At the same time, I highly value individual experience and initiative, and I am very open to feedback and to input on the part of the mentee.Additional Information
