How To: Getting the Most Out of Your Research Conference Experience!

NETWORK

A key benefit of research conferences is building professional connections. Introduce yourself, explore interesting posters, and engage during breaks. Attend job and grad school fairs with your resume ready. Step out of your comfort zone—you never know who you’ll meet!

PLAN YOUR TIME

Conference schedules are packed with great sessions, presentations, and social events, so plan ahead! Prioritize key events, leave time to practice your presentation, and, if possible, rehearse in the actual room. Explore sessions beyond your research focus and connect with new people.

Take Notes

Bring a notebook to jot down key takeaways, contacts, and ideas during the conference. Note-taking keeps you alert, helps capture inspiration for future research, and ensures you don't forget important moments!

Reflect & Follow-Up

After the conference, review your notes, act on key takeaways, and share your experience with your lab or mentors. Follow up with new contacts to maintain and grow your professional network!
