Currently, during the summer, I was recently awarded the IDEA Grant, which provides a stipend of up to $4,000 (or up to $6,000 for groups) to support a self-designed project, research topic, entrepreneurial venture, creative work, or artistic performance. Through this grant, I am working with a research partner in my laboratory to investigate how skin carotenoid status may relate to cognitive and motor function, helping to evaluate whether carotenoid levels are associated with these outcomes.
In addition to receiving the IDEA Grant, I am completing an Honors in the Major thesis and have presented research at the Florida Undergraduate Research Conference (FURC).

UROP has definitely had a significant impact on my time at FSU. Through the program, I was able to join a research laboratory that has helped me grow not only as a researcher but also in developing valuable professional skills, such as phlebotomy and clinical research methods. UROP served as a stepping stone that opened many doors for me, including becoming a UROP Leader, receiving an IDEA Grant, pursuing an Honors in the Major thesis, and presenting my research at a conference.
I would say that your experience in UROP is what you make of it. If you treat it as more than just another class and actively seek opportunities to get involved, it can provide experiences and connections that greatly benefit your academic and professional development.
