Service Learning

We recognize that Julius Scholars are citizens above all. A theoretical understanding of the world around you is not enough, one must also have both a respect for and a genuine relationship with that world. Through this, and the understanding that STEM fields are often at the forefront of lasting and radical change in the world around us, Julius Scholars have a service learning requirement that drives home the very real impacts of our participation in the global setting.

Ten (10) hours of service are required per semester, with exemptions for the Fall of freshman year and the Spring of senior year. Each semester, 4 of these hours will be completed as a group, and 6 are the responsibility of the scholar. Of the 6 that are left to the scholar, only 3 may be completed within the campus community. This requirement ensures that scholars engage with the community outside of Florida State.
