Experiential Funding

Central to the Julius Scholars program is the commitment to independent research and ambitious academic goals. We know that doesn't always take place in a classroom, or within the walls of our great institution. That's why as part of your Julius Scholar funding award, you'll receive $7,500 to use toward experiential funding during your 4 years with us.

Experiential funding can be used as early as the summer following your Freshman year. These funds may be used to fund research that takes you beyond the confines of your traditional coursework and into the realm of what matters to you.

Take the money to support you as you embark on a research experience abroad. Use it to support cost of living while you take on a local research internship that might otherwise be unpaid. Or use it to support research that you develop independently here, elsewhere in the states, or abroad. You may even use it to travel to professional conferences. The possibilities are endless, and we are here to support your growth as a citizen STEM researcher with a dedicated focus on making things better.

Examples of what are not considered acceptable uses of your Julius Scholars Experiential Funding include, but are not limited to:

  • Backpacking equipment or supplies
  • Classes (at FSU)
  • Clothing (business, formal, etc.)
  • Entrepreneurship or personal projects
  • Graduate school test prep, applications, or interview
  • Mission trips that don’t involve community service
  • Paid internships (including moving expenses)
  • Personal trips that lack an academic, professional or service connection
  • Photography equipment
