Project Description

The Hate Crime Research and Policy Institute (HCRPI) conducts interdisciplinary research focused on hate crime, bias-motivated violence, and related issues. This opportunity will allow undergraduate researchers to contribute to one or more ongoing HCRPI projects based on their interests, skills, and experience. Students may assist with activities such as reviewing and synthesizing research literature, collecting and organizing data, coding and analyzing information, and supporting the dissemination of research findings. Specific responsibilities will be developed with each student to provide meaningful research experience while contributing to the Institute’s broader research mission.

Research Tasks: Research tasks will vary depending on student interests and the needs of ongoing HCRPI projects. Potential tasks may include conducting literature reviews; collecting, cleaning, organizing, and coding data; assisting with data analysis; assisting with survey or other data collection efforts; and contributing to the preparation and dissemination of research findings. Students may also have opportunities to participate in research team meetings and other aspects of the research process as appropriate.

Skills that research assistant(s) may need: Recommended, not required: experience working with Excel or other data management software; experience conducting literature reviews or working with data; interest in hate crime, bias-motivated violence, or related policy issues.
