Research Assistant Transportation Required: FSU Shuttles Remote or In-person: Partially Remote
Approximate Weekly Hours: 5-10 depending on the week and the research assistant's other responsibilities, Flexible schedule (Combination of business and outside of business. TBD between student and research mentor.)

Project Description
This research project is interested in understanding the composition of hospital boards with respect to their expertise and gender. In one part, we will build and analyze data to understand the role of expertise on a hospital boards and whether it has an effect on quality outcomes within the hospital. In another part, we will try to think about whether non-profit organizations like hospitals, mimic boards of publicly traded companies.Research Tasks: -Data collection (web scarping, manual collection)
-Data synthesis (putting datasets together, developing coding abilities)
-Literature reviews
Skills that research assistant(s) may need: Ideally a research assistant will have some basic technical skills. However, I am open to working with a student who is motivated to build upon skills that may be transferable for graduate school and/or a job.
Mentoring Philosophy
I believe mentoring is a two-way apprenticeship. I teach research skills and my mentees teach me new ways to see old questions. As someone whose work spans nursing home quality ratings, competitive dynamics in healthcare markets, and board governance, I look for research assistants who are curious about how organizations respond to information, competition, and change, even if you don't yet have a background in these specific areas.My approach is hands-on. You'll get real exposure to the mechanics of empirical research, from building datasets to applying rigorous methods to answer questions that matter. I don't expect you to arrive as an expert, but I do expect you to be motivated to learn and problem solve.
Beyond the technical skills, I care about your trajectory, whether that's a PhD, industry research, or something else entirely. I see this role as a chance to build your research toolkit while figuring out what excites you intellectually, and I'm invested in supporting that path however I can.
