Mentoring Philosophy Mentoring is an opportunity for professional and intellectual development, both for me and the mentee. I see our relationship as collaborative, with both of us sharing the goals of making valuable contributions to existing scholarship and advancing the state of the field. I especially encourage the students with whom I work to develop their own scholarly projects, and will encourage them to create a project of publishable quality, eventually finding venues for the presentation and publication of the final work. It is important for me to know the goals and interests of the mentees with whom I work, so that I can understand and appreciate what they wish to achieve with their projects. Ultimately, the mentee and I should see our working relationship as part of the project, one that evolves over time and adapts to new developments, and is something we can eventually be as proud of as the project itself.
